Collaboration Focuses on Sustainable Aviation Fuel and Renewable Diesel to Decarbonize Air and Road Transport

DHL Group and Neste have announced a deepened collaboration to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in logistics, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The partnership will focus on leveraging Neste’s renewable diesel, known as “HVO100,” and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to support DHL’s decarbonization efforts in both air and road transportation.
DHL Group has set ambitious interim targets for 2030, including electrifying two-thirds of its last-mile delivery vehicles and increasing the use of sustainable fuels across all transportation modes to over 30%. Neste, a leading producer of renewable diesel and SAF, will play a key role in helping DHL meet these goals.
As part of the agreement, the two companies will develop a commercial model to supply DHL with approximately 300,000 tons of unblended SAF annually by 2030, with options for additional volumes. They will also explore the use of renewable diesel to decarbonize road transportation.
Yin Zou, EVP of Corporate Development at DHL Group, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with Neste is a crucial step in our strategy to achieve net-zero-emission logistics by 2050. Together, we will develop innovative solutions that support our sustainability goals and those of our customers.”
Carl Nyberg, Senior Vice President of Commercial Renewable Products at Neste, added, “We are excited to strengthen our cooperation with DHL Group and support their leadership in reducing GHG emissions through our renewable fuels, which offer effective solutions for both road and air transport.”
The companies have a history of successful collaboration, including joint efforts in sustainable aviation fuel deliveries and pioneering the ISCC Credit Transfer System, which enables credible reporting of emission reductions achieved through SAF. This new agreement marks a significant milestone in their shared commitment to a sustainable future.
