Joint Development of ‘Brain + Nervous System’ Reference Architecture Aims to Fast-track Humanoid Robot Deployment

NEURA Robotics (NEURA), a pioneer in cognitive robotics, and Qualcomm Technologies, a global leader in integrated technology, have announced a long-term strategic collaboration to advance the next generation of robotics and Physical AI platforms. This partnership aims to bridge the gap between AI research and large-scale commercialization by integrating Qualcomm’s high-performance AI computing with NEURA’s advanced robotic systems and embedded AI software.
Emergence of the ‘Brain + Nervous System’ Reference Architecture
The core of this collaboration is the creation of a seamless co-existence between humans and robots in environments ranging from industrial floors to domestic settings. To achieve this, the two companies are co-developing a new reference architecture that integrates the “Brain” (high-level cognition, perception, and planning) with the “Nervous System” (ultra-low latency, real-time control).
This architecture incorporates the Qualcomm Dragonwing IQ10 series, a cutting-edge robotics processor, alongside specialized Physical AI accelerators. By combining these with NEURA’s hardware platforms and Embodied AI software stack, the partnership moves beyond theoretical prototypes toward a robust solution capable of mass production and global deployment.
Standardizing Physical AI and Building a Global Ecosystem
NEURA and Qualcomm intend to establish standardized runtimes and deployment interfaces to facilitate the transition of Physical AI from development to production. This ensures that AI workloads can be consistently validated and updated across various robot platforms while maintaining system determinism and reliability. Key pillars of the collaboration include:
- Leveraging the ‘Neuraverse’ Platform: The cloud-based shared intelligence network, Neuraverse, has been optimized for the Dragonwing processor environment to manage simulation and orchestration of robot fleets.
- Developer Support and Marketplace: The partnership established a global developer ecosystem encouraging a ‘Build-once, deploy-across’ approach, allowing a single development cycle to apply to multiple robot forms.
- Human-Centric Design: Prioritizing functional safety and real-time responsiveness, the collaboration continues to drive data-driven performance improvements.
Realizing Local Intelligence Without Cloud Dependency
Nakul Duggal, Senior Vice President at Qualcomm, identified robotics as one of the most demanding edge AI use cases, requiring immediate and reliable judgment in local environments. He emphasized that the collaboration with NEURA would accelerate the shift toward on-device intelligence, where perception and reasoning are processed directly within the machine.
David Reger, CEO of NEURA Robotics, evaluated the partnership as a significant step in making Physical AI an open, scalable, and trustworthy reality. Since its founding in 2019, NEURA has maintained a ‘one-device’ strategy by internalizing AI and sensory technologies. Through this collaboration with Qualcomm, NEURA plans to accelerate the commercialization of the world’s first multipurpose humanoid robots.
