Achieves 21.3% Market Share in 2024, Driven by Innovation and Strong Product Portfolio

Infineon Technologies AG has secured the number one position in the global microcontroller market, according to the latest research by Omdia. The company’s market share rose to 21.3% in 2024, marking a significant year-over-year increase of 3.5 percentage points. This milestone represents the first time Infineon has achieved the top spot in the overall microcontroller market, following its earlier success in becoming the leading automotive microcontroller supplier in 2023.
Andreas Urschitz, Chief Marketing Officer at Infineon, attributed this success to the company’s superior product portfolio, software, and user-friendly development tools, which have consistently exceeded customer expectations. Over the past decade, Infineon’s microcontroller business has grown at an average annual rate of 13.0%, significantly outpacing the overall market growth of 4.0%.
Infineon’s microcontroller portfolio, including product families like AURIX™, TRAVEO™, PSOC™, and XMC™, serves a wide range of applications, from automotive systems to IoT devices and industrial machinery. At Embedded World 2025, the company showcased its innovation roadmap, including the upcoming launch of a RISC-V-based automotive microcontroller family under the AURIX brand. This new family aims to meet the complex computing demands of software-defined vehicles, further solidifying Infineon’s leadership in the automotive sector.
Additionally, Infineon introduced advancements in its PSOC multi-purpose family, such as the new PSOC Control series for power and motor control, and PSOC Edge for CRA-ready Edge AI. The PSOC 4 family also featured new capacitive, inductive, and liquid sensing technologies, enabling higher integration and new use cases.
The global microcontroller market reached 22.4 billion in 2024, down from 28.0 billion in 2023, as reported by Omdia. Infineon’s ability to outperform the market underscores its commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions, positioning the company as a key driver of decarbonization and digitalization across industries.
