South Korea to Showcase Cutting-Edge Technology at EMO Hanover 2025

The world’s premier trade fair for production technology, EMO Hanover 2025, is set to take place under the theme Innovate Manufacturing. This global event, scheduled to celebrate its 50th anniversary, will bring together industry leaders, innovators, and experts from across the globe to explore the latest advancements in metalworking and production technology. With over 40 South Korean exhibitors already registered, including industry giants like DN Solutions, SMEC Machine Tools, YG-1, and Hwacheon, the event promises to be a pivotal platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and business development.
South Korea’s Strong Presence at EMO
South Korea, a global leader in machine tool production, is expected to make a significant impact at EMO Hanover 2025. In 2024, the country’s machine tool production volume reached approximately $5 billion, securing its position as the sixth-largest producer worldwide. Nearly half of this production is exported, with key industries such as automotive manufacturing, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering driving demand. South Korean exhibitors will showcase state-of-the-art systems, including advanced lathes and cutting tools, highlighting the nation’s technological prowess.
Dr. Markus Heering, Executive Director of the German Machine Tools Builders’ Association (VDW), emphasized the importance of EMO as a global platform for industry players. “EMO is unparalleled in its ability to connect manufacturers and users from around the world,” he stated during the EMO presentation in Seoul. In 2023, the event attracted over 1,800 exhibitors from 45 countries and 92,000 trade visitors from nearly 140 nations, including 1,300 from South Korea. This year, the fair is expected to draw even greater participation, offering South Korean companies opportunities to forge new business relationships and expand their global footprint.
Focus on Automation, Sustainability, and Digitalization
EMO Hanover 2025 will address the most pressing challenges facing the metalworking industry, including automation, sustainability, and digitalization. These themes are particularly relevant for South Korea, where rising costs and a shortage of skilled labor are driving the adoption of automated solutions. Exhibitors will present a wide range of automation technologies, from pallet changers and handling systems to collaborative robots and autonomous factories. The Cobot Area, a dedicated exhibition space, will highlight the potential of collaborative robots in enhancing efficiency and productivity.
Sustainability will also take center stage, aligning with South Korea’s Green New Deal initiative, which aims for climate neutrality by 2050. The Sustainability Area at EMO will showcase innovations in energy efficiency, recycling, and lifecycle management, helping manufacturers reduce their carbon footprint while cutting production costs. Dr. Heering noted that investments in modern machinery can lead to energy savings of up to 25%, underscoring the economic and environmental benefits of sustainable practices.

Digitalization, coupled with artificial intelligence (AI), will be another key focus. The AI + Digitalization Area will demonstrate how AI and the Internet of Things (IoT) are transforming production processes, enabling real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and enhanced productivity. South Korean manufacturers, known for their leadership in digital technologies, will have the opportunity to showcase their innovations and explore new business models.
Celebrating 50 Years of Innovation
As EMO Hanover marks its 50th anniversary, the event will reflect on its legacy as a global institution shaping the future of metalworking. Since its inception in 1975, EMO has been a catalyst for innovation, bringing together industry experts and showcasing cutting-edge technologies. The 2025 edition will feature special exhibits, including the Additive Manufacturing joint stand and the Startup Area, where young companies will present forward-looking technologies.
Dr. Heering concluded, “EMO Hanover 2025 is not just a trade fair; it’s a celebration of innovation and a call to action for the industry to embrace new technologies. For South Korean suppliers and users, this is an unparalleled opportunity to gain inspiration, explore new ideas, and drive the future of metalworking.”
