Cleaning without material loss

Erdwich cleaning

Hydraulic Easy Cleaning-Construction reduces cleaning of the Single-shaft shredder and facilitates work processes   Many materials have to be comminuted before further processing – this includes different chips and stamped parts made of plastic and metal, but also valuable precious metals such as gold and silver as well as laboratory samples. In this process, a part of the raw material often remains in the crushing machine. In order to recover the precious material, the plant had to be opened and cleaned demanding much time and effort up to now. Erdwich Zerkleinerungssysteme GmbH, therefore, has equipped its proven Single-shaft shredders M400 and M600 with a hydraulic Easy Cleaning construction, which allows to safely open the machines with little time effort and ...

EMO Hannover 2017 builds bridges between academia and the business community

EMO Hannover

A window on the production operations of tomorrow The EMO Hannover 2017 is exploring new approaches for strengthening mutual feedback between the academic and business communities. In line with the EMO’s motto of “Connecting systems for intelligent production”, the German Machine Tool Builders’ Association (VDW) is therefore organising the Industry 4.0. Special Show area, on which Fraunhofer and university-affiliated research institutes of the German Academic Society for Production Engineering (WGP) will be showcasing the latest advances in networked production technology. Besides the WGP (a grouping of leading German mechanical engineering professors), representatives of the industrial sector will be showing what solutions they have already implemented in practical form. In an accompanying presentation forum, eminent academics will be elucidating their latest ...

Safety harmonised with productivity

Peter Steger of Grob-Werke

Hard nuts to crack when it comes to machine tool safety Standards on the safety of machine tools are currently being revised by the VDW (German Machine Tool Builder Association). The VDW’s working group for “Safety engineering in metal-cutting machining” is especially tasked with the Type C Product Safety Standards coming first in terms of importance, e.g. ISO 16089 for grinding machines, ISO 16090 for milling machines and ISO 23125 for lathes. They all refer to the Type-B Standard ISO 13849-1, in which what are called safety functions are given probability-referenced ratings as models for control chains. This theoretical approach intermeshes with operationally validated practice already established in the field. Despite a demonstrably high level of safety in German machine ...

Start-ups in the limelight at the EMO Hannover 2017

Dr. Schäfer of the VDW

For the first time, there will be a special stand themed around “Start-ups for intelligent production” at the EMO Hannover 2017, the world’s premier trade fair for the metalworking sector, to be held from 18 to 23 September. “We aim to offer young companies venturing something new in terms of production technology a platform for marketing their innovations,” says Dr. Wilfried Schäfer, Executive Director of the EMO’s organiser VDW (German Machine Tool Builders’ Association). The rapid pace of technical change in the field of production technology, he continues, means that new firms are set up to write software for networking machines and processes, for example, for developing new metrological procedures, implementing virtual-reality applications, or offering new close-to-industry services. They are ...

EMO Hannover 2017 heading for a record

EMO Hannover

World’s premier trade fair reports substantial increases as registration deadline approaches Just under a year before the fair begins, the figures for official registration at the EMO Hannover 2017 are looking rather impressive: more than 1,700 firms from 40 different countries have registered for the world’s most important trade fair for the metalworking sector, booking a stand area totalling 152,000 square metres for the period from 18 to 23 September 2017 in Hanover. This means the current registration status lies significantly above the comparable result of the previous event. “It looks very much as if the EMO Hannover 2017 will end up with a record number of exhibitors,” declares EMO General Commissioner Carl Martin Welcker. The reasons he cites for ...

German manufacturers impress Vietnamese customers

VDW- Symposium Vietnam 2016

12 machine tool manufacturers premiere their capabilities in Vietnam The German machine tool industry has met with keen interest in Vietnam. For the first time, the VDW (German Machine Tool Builders’ Association), in conjunction with the German-Vietnamese Chamber of Industry and Commerce, in late November organised a one-day symposium in Ho Chi Minh City. Twelve prestigious companies like Chiron, DMG Mori, Heller, Hermle, Klingelnberg, Mauser, Open Mind, Peiseler, Siemens, SW Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen, Trumpf and Zimmer & Kreim showcased their products, solutions and services for modern-day industrial production operations. Around 100 customers from the relevant user categories in the metalworking sector responded to the invitation, and attended the VDW’s symposium in the cultural and commercial centre of Vietnam. The Vietnamese sales ...
